Living Legends Lead By Example w/ Shawn Lyght | Notre Dame Lacrosse

Shawn Lyght is the first defenseman in history to win the Tewaaraton Award, college lacrosse's highest individual honor. A national champion and three-year starter for Notre Dame, Shawn returns for his senior season leading a Fighting Irish squad built to run it back.

In this episode of the Captains & Coaches Podcast, Shawn opens up about his journey from a two-sport athlete to one of the best defensemen in the country. We dig into the real difference between a high school captain and a college captain, how to hold a teammate accountable without damaging the friendship, why Notre Dame's defense operates out of one huddle instead of two, and how a naturally quiet leader learns to find his voice and use it at the right moments.

Shawn also shares the coaching philosophy behind his defensive clinics, the footwork and approach techniques he teaches, and what it takes to stay locked in every single game when every opponent has your name circled on their schedule.

This conversation is a real-time look at what it means to lead by example, from someone who has done it at the highest level of college lacrosse.
